How to Remove Pet Stains from Your Carpet and Upholstery

A dog or a cat can be a wonderful addition to your home and family. However, one of the most common downsides to pet ownership is the occasional pet accident on your carpet or furniture. When it happens, here are some tips to clean your carpet or upholstery.

For fresh pet stains:

  • Soak up as much of the stain as possible with newspaper or paper towels. The more you can remove, the less likely it is to smell.
  • Clean the area with a light cleaning solution.
  • Rinse the area very thoroughly with cool water and blot dry or use a wet vac.

For old or set pet stains:

  • Use a wet vac or extractor to remove any heavy staining.
  • Try a good carpet cleaner and stain remover if the area still looks stained.
  • Be sure to use a pet odor neutralizer once the area is clean.
  • If urine has soaked into the padding of your carpet, you may need to completely replace the carpet to eliminate the stain and odor, and prevent your pet from marking the area again.

If you do have stains and odors in your carpet, or if you’re just ready for new flooring, Bay Carpet can help. Contact us today or visit us online.
