Taking a Look at the Different Types of Carpets

Shopping for new carpeting can be a lot of fun, but it can also be very overwhelming because of all the different types of carpets that are available. From textured carpeting to patterned carpeting and everything in between, you may have to make a difficult decision before carpet installation takes place. Prior to reaching out to carpet installers in NYC, carefully consider what kind of carpeting you want. Here are some of the types that you can choose from.

Nylon

This is one of the most popular types of carpeting because it is very durable and is available in a wide range of colors. It does not repel stains on its own, but it can be treated to help shield it from staining. About 60 percent of all the carpeting sold in the U.S. today is constructed using nylon.

Olefin

While this type of carpeting is strong like nylon and mold and mildew-resistant, which makes it a great outdoor carpet, it is not nearly as comfortable to walk on as some other types of carpeting. The seams in olefin carpets will also likely show after carpet installation.

Polyester

Over the last few years, this type of carpeting has become more popular in the U.S. because it is less experience than most other options. It also has a very soft feel. The one problem with it is that it is less resilient than nylon and olefin, which means it’s not ideal for areas of the home that are susceptible to large amounts of foot traffic.

Wool

This is one of the most expensive types of carpeting on the market. It costs more than other options because wool is one of the only natural fibers used to produce carpets. It is very soft and durable. Acrylic carpeting is also a good alternative, because provides the same feel of wool-based carpets without the high price tag
